Chrome already has wonderful Google Chrome browser extensions for Google Play and Last.fm that allow you to control music playback without having to visit the actual site, and now there’s a new extension available for arguably the most widely used site of all – Pandora. SoundControl Beta for Pandora is a Chrome extension that also lets users control the site right from within the toolbar. RIP

People die every day and inherently, that’s sad. But that’s the way the cookie crumbles, people.

The other day, it was former White Zombie drummer Phil Buerstatte’s turn.

His body was reportedly found over the weekend in Madison, Wisconsin.

No further details are available at this time.

Buerstatte was with White Zombie between 1992 and 1994, and played a bunch of shows with them.

His death was announced by a member of his latest band, Last Crack.

“He will be greatly missed by his many friends, family and fellow band members,” says a statement from that band dude.

“The remaining members of the band are discussing doing a tribute show in Phil’s honor in the coming months. We’ll post details soon.”

Last August, someone claiming to be Buerstatte was arrested on suspicion of defrauding a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center in Sausalito, California.

He bounced a $75,000 check to the Alta Mira Recovery Center.

Seems Phil didn’t fully recover.

A (rubbish) artist’s impression of Chester Temple Pilots

The new Stone Temple Pilots track featuring Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington has been released!

Have a listen to Out of Time below…

Out Of Time was apparently recorded with Chester during some recent mutual downtime.

“Chester has a one-of-a-kind voice that we’ve admired for a long time,” explains Stone Temple Pilots’ Dean DeLeo. “We know Linkin Park will always be his priority, but we thought it would be cool to try something together. We managed to find the time to record a song and we’re all really happy with the result.”

“I’ve loved STP since I was 13 years old and they’ve had a huge influence on me,” explains Bennington. “When the opportunity came up to do something creative with them, I jumped at the chance. The guys in Linkin Park have been incredibly supportive of me undertaking this project while I’ve continued to work on new music with LP.”

So, it looks like we could be hearing a lot more from the Chester-fronted STP. Interesting….

Papa Roach: Messy painters

Download Festival 2013 is finally just around the corner, so we’re grabbing some of the biggest and best bands from this year’s lineup to throw some irreverent bollocks at. Not literally. That’d be insane. Today, we chat to Jerry from Papa Roach!

Alright, Jez! How many times have you been to Donington?

This is our third time at Donington

What’s your favourite Donington memory?

The second time we were there, we played with Iron Maiden. Admittedly, I’m not a huge Maiden fan, but we played with them in Germany the week before, and they were extremely cool to us. I remember at Donington, the band and crew sat out on the lawn and watched and sang all the songs together. Much respect.

What are you most looking forward to about playing this year?

It’s been three years, and the energy was amazing. I can’t wait to feel the crowd. Wait…that came out wrong.

Which bands on the bill are you most excited about?

I’m stoked to see Korn with Head back in the band!

What can we expect from your set?

Our goal is to get the whole crowd jumping. We put everything we have into the show, and love to get the crowd involved. The energy exchange makes for a great show, and that’s what we thrive on. If I am not close to collapsing when we are done, I didn’t do my job.

What’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen at a festival?

Seeing people use their pants as a toilet is never a pleasant experience for anyone….

If you could only pack five things to take with you, what would they be?

My computer, phone, guitar, camera, headphones

The Word Alive: bringing the synths to Slam Dunk, we imagine

This weekend, Slam Dunk festival takes over the UK for a Bank Holiday mosh-and-booze-up of epic proportions. It’s going to be an iron-clad rager and, if we’re being frank, a bit messy, so when we found out that had gone and invented a drinking game for the duration of the fest, we had to nick it. Sorry, Tom.

So, in the first of what is probably going to be an ongoing and increasingly ridiculous series over festival season, here is the 100% Unofficial Metal Hammer Slam Dunk Drinking game:

Simple. See you down the front.*

*Please note, these rules are in no way officially affiliated with Slam Dunk festival or its promoters. It’s just a bit of fun. If you decide to actually go through with this, you are a maniac and can’t blame us if you end up face down, passed out in front of Tek-One.
